HOD’s Desk
Greetings from the Department of Social Work (Aided), MSSW!
Tomorrow CEO’s will be working in an environment that demands proactive empathy with the needs of an ever-changing workforce, and innovative collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders on the most pressing issues that face our global society. That sounds to me like a job for a social worker who might be able to help not just the world’s companies, but its people and environment as well.

The Department of Social Work (Aided) is dedicated to developing aspiring students into leaders who can impact the quality of lives of people and society. The department offers MSW, MPhil and PhD programmes, very popular among aspiring social work professionals in South India. The MSW curriculum emphasizes social work values, principles and methods that enable students to adopt strategies and interventions for creating positive workplaces, healthy employees and strong communities. With the right mix of theory, research and field work practicums, our graduates are well-equipped and therefore continue to be the ‘graduates of choice’ among our key stakeholders.
The MSW program also sensitizes students to develop global perspectives and the impact of transnational corporations and institutions in dealing with problems and concerns limiting individual motivation, performance and well-being. The core aspect of the MSW program is its field work placements or internship wherein MSW graduates are placed into field work assignments and projects in a variety of settings, which includes not-for-profit organizations such as World Vision, IJM, Aide-et-Action, SOS Children’s Villages, Banyan, SCARF, TNSCB, etc., to large industrial organizations like Murugappa, TVS, Amalgamations, Rane, Saint Gobain, CAT, etc. In each of these organizations, social work trainees are hired into various departments such as Outreach, CSR, HR, L&D, etc., and are able to make positive contributions. Our graduates and alumni continue to make tremendous impact in the lives of individuals, families and communities, to maintain hope and seek solutions during difficult times, as agents of social change and advocates for social and economic justice.
