Scope of the Centre for Labour Studies (CLS )

The Centre for Labour Studies is functioning under the aegis of Madras School of Social Work which will promote advanced (cutting edge) research and learning in the area of labour comprising both organised and unorganised sectors. The centre collaborates with multiple stakeholders such as governmental and non-governmental organisations, (employer’s organisation, trade union, individual labourers,) who are working in the similar interest areas to enhance the current knowledge and improve the research ecosystem of labour market.

The centre will provide an opportunity for the Social work, Management and Entrepreneurship faculty members to keep the mission of our college in mind and play an active role in advocacy and policy formulation and access to contemporary knowledge resources in the formal and informal labour sector.

Activities of the Centre

  • To conduct training programmes on legislations and subject matter related to labour
  • To conduct research in the field of organised and unorganised labour
  • To involve in the research consultancy related to labours studies
  • To organise conferences, symposiums and webinar sessions on the topic relevant to labour
  • To publish scientific articles, working papers, filed reports, policy brief, discussion papers, case studies in the labour area.
