Centre for Health Psychology

The Centre of Excellence in Health Psychology at Madras School of Social Work is dedicated to advancing the understanding of psychological factors that influence health and well-being. Its mission is to promote research, training, and community engagement in health psychology and psychological services, focusing on improving mental health outcomes and fostering holistic approaches to healthcare.

The vision is to become a leading Centre in health psychology, bridging the gap between research and practice, and empowering individuals and communities to achieve better health through evidence-based psychological interventions and training. The Centre aims to address pressing health challenges and contribute to a healthier society, through fostering collaboration among academics, practitioners, researchers and policymakers.

Further COEHP actively engages in the development of psycho-social assessment tools tailored for the health psychology field, enabling healthcare professionals to better understand and address the various psycho social dimensions. Through rigorous research initiatives, the Centre seeks to uncover new insights into mental health, exploring the complex interplay between psychological factors and overall well-being. Therefore, by focusing on these key areas, the Centre aims to enhance the effectiveness of interventions and contribute to the broader understanding of how psychological factors influence health and quality of life.
