The Department of English offers a foundation course in English to undergraduate students from the departments of Social Work and Psychology. In addition to their academic work, students are trained in language-based skills such as public speaking, creative writing, editing, reviewing, theater performance and debate. The department also actively promotes the habit of reading books outside the syllabus requirements by taking interested students to the book fair and literature festivals. Special training in Communicative English is provided to select students as a remedial course to help them speak fluently and write effectively. In addition to encouraging students to participate in literary events both within and outside the college, the English Literary Forum Parnassus supports the activities of the debating club D’Bait and the Theater Society Proscenium.
