NSS (National Service Scheme)



The National Service Scheme (NSS) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has been in operation in MADRAS SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK (MSSW) since 2005. The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You” reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. The basic objective of the NSS is to focus on the development of individual student level, and to the broader community level. The NSS Unit hosts a range of activities throughout the year related to social problems widely. Some of the Regular and special programmes are as follows:


a) Environment: Tree Plantation, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Cleanathon, cleanliness drives, no plastic campaign as well as participate in sensitization workshops.

b) Education: Scribing, volunteering for organizing school events, Tuition etc. at various locations   

c) Health & Hygiene:- Health camp, Dental Camp ,Blood Donation, Participates in awareness rally on issues related to AIDS, Tuberculosis, Stem Cell Donation, Cancer, Club Foot etc to sensitize the community.

d) Summer Volunteering Activity and Weekend Volunteering activity at various NGO’s, Schools & community.

e) Special Camps: Camps were organized at regular intervals.

f) Training: Disaster Management, First Aid, Safety etc


In addition to this NSS Unit of MSSW also collaborate with agencies to engage students to enhance the student volunteering experience and an opportunity to contribute to their community. Through NSS activities Students also develop skills specific to their career path and imperative for future job success and have opportunities to improve their leadership and interpersonal skills while also increasing their self-confidence.
