M.A. DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT (Self Financed)
Objectives of the Course
The objectives of the course M.A. in Development Management are to provide a value added, market driven, employment oriented and indigenously relevant course for the Development Sector at Local, National and International Levels.. The course focuses on giving necessary inputs and training in setting up of the goals and objectives of development activities, establishment of Non-Governmental Organizations, thorough understanding of the organizational framework of NGOs / INGOs, CSR activities, Funding and Research agencies, devising strategies and operational pathways, supervision and planning of Projects, Programmes, Finance, Marketing, Human Resource, Networking, other policies and various other actions of the organizations. Study of these main areas will help a student to understand the subject and the field of activity in detail from a more realistic point of view and prepare them for a career in the Development Sector.
Adopting the CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) pattern the course (92 credit) of study, the M.A. Development Management programme shall extend over 4 semesters (Two years) and shall consist of theory papers (Core, Electives) Field Practicum, Research Project, Summer Placement, Block Placement and Study Tour. Besides the above the students will also undergo soft-skills courses to enhance their employability and employment skills. To meet the requirements, of the Development Sector, the course is designed to provide knowledge and training to the candidates on a wide range of issues and social concerns challenging the society at the national and international levels.
At the end of the course, the students will be able to groom themselves and develop necessary competencies to function as professionally trained development managers to establish Projects and Programmes in NGOs/INGOs, Corporate Bodies and Research and Funding agencies at Local, National and International Levels. Students who undergo this programme will be imparted with a special capacity and skills to work as managers in the emerging & specialized fields of the Development Sector.
Eligibility for Admission
Any student with a special interest and aptitude for management of organizations and people, with a Bachelor’s Degree, in any discipline, of a minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 pattern or any other pattern (including professional courses) that fulfills the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education from a recognized University and approved by the University of Madras will be eligible to apply for the course. Preference will be given to candidates with work experience from the Development Sector.
