SOCIAL WORK FORUM (SWF)

Departmental forums have been a tradition of Madras School of Social Work for years with the aim of promoting subject related developmental activities among the students.

With the aim of promoting students skills in organizing various programmes on social themes the Department of Social Work (Aided) have inaugurated the Social Work Forum for the year 2011-12 with the continuity of the theme “Broadening Horizons”. Election of Office bearers of the forum was held during July 2011.

The inauguration was led by Mr. M.G. Devasahayam, I.A.S. (Retd), Convener, Electoral Integrity Forum on 29th July, 2011. Social Work Forum aims to reach out the students with a difference and ultimate goals of empowerment, integrity, commitment, harmony, dignity and development. Social Work Forum creates platform for the students to explore different issues relating to social work field.

Keeping this objective in mind the elected representatives have organized a series of activities and programmes. Seminar on Social Analysis and the Way Forward (9th August, 2011), movie cum guest lecture onSamacheer Kalvi (19th August, 2011), Training program on PRA techniques (26th to 29th August,2011) at Gandhigram Rural University, Dindigul,     Ms. Indrani Rajadurai, Advisor, Help Age India delivered the Lecture on Legal Measures and Social Worker’s intervention for Elderly (30th September,2011) in commemoration of the Elders Day etc. can be mentioned in few the programs organized by the Forum. Social Work Forum created the website: www.swfmssw.webnode.com to network within the members, alumnus, to share our activities and to reach out the society.

It is proposed to organise the workshop on Documentary movies, networking with the alumnus, Guest lectures on the social issues, workshop on Project Formulation and Management etc in the forth coming months during this academic year. Social Work Forum will continue to function as the platform for the social work students in creating opportunities for the budding professionals to excel in the Social Work fields.
