National Youth Day was observed by BSW Department in collaboration with YRG Care, Chennai to sensitize youth about HIV/AIDS – Getting to Zero with the goals of Zero New Infections, Zero Discrimination and Zero AIDS related Deaths.
The programme started at 10:00 am with the welcome address given by Dr. R. Subashini, Dean, MSSW. Mr. Satish Kumar, Training Manager, YRG Care, Chennai enlightened the audience about the facts that affect general public and the stigma around it. The talk was also focused on the theme “Getting to Zero”. YRG 1-2-1 app was introduced to the audience. A random selection was done among the registered participants and prizes were given to five students to encourage them to use the app and spread awareness among the public.
Mr. Krishnan, Senior Manager, YRG Care, Chennai spoke about the status of HIV affected people in India, Ways to reduce it and the contribution of YRG Care in India. A video about the efforts of the scientists in preparing vaccines to eradicate HIV was screened to the audience. The students were encouraged to participate in elocution competition and online slogan contest.
Mementoes were given to the representatives of the colleges and service providers who extended their arms to help in the activities of YRG Care. Prof. P.K. Vathani, Head, BSW, MSSW delivered vote of thanks. The event ended with National Anthem. Refreshments were provided to all the participants.
There were more than 150 participants from the various colleges and NGOS.
