Writing for Publishing and Avoiding the Risk of Plagiarism and Copyright Violation

UGC Sponsored One Day National Workshop on “Writing for Publishing and Avoiding the Risk of Plagiarism and Copyright Violation” was held at Madras School of Social Work on 05-03-2015. The workshop was presided over by Dr.V.A.Vijayaragavan, Principal-in-charge, Madras School of Social Work and inaugurated by Dr.Arvind Sivarama Krishnan, Former Senior Deputy Editor, The Hindu. Dr.Arvind Sivarama Krishnan spoke about scholarly journals and how they help for research. He shared his knowledge about writing scholarly papers for journals. He also suggested number of websites to the participants for improving their writing skills.

 

There were around 100 teachers from different colleges and universities participated in the workshop. The technical sessions were,

 

  1. Writing articles for Scholarly Journals by Dr.Rupashree Baral, Asst.Prof. Dept of Management Studies, IIT Madras
  2. Writing a book by Mr.Ganesh Samarthyan, Bangalore
  3. Changing Landscape of Scholarly Communication Dr.G.Mahesh, Head, National Science Library, CSIR-NISCAIR, New Delhi
  4. Avoiding the Risk of Plagiarism and Copyright Violation, by Dr.V.Sakthi Rekha, Librarian, Madras School of Social Work, Chennai

 

Then the workshop came to an end with Panel Discussion on “Writing, Reviewing, Editing and Publishing” . The Panelists were Dr.S.Raja Samuel, Head, Dept. of Social Work (Aided), MSSW, Mr.P.K.Visvesvaran, Retd.Faculty Member, MSSW, Dr.G.Mahesh, Head, National Science Library, CSIR-NISCAIR and Editor, Annals of Library and Information Studies and Ms.Miriam Madhav, Proof reader and English Language Trainer.

 

At the end of the day, the participants were very glad to take away the quality input on the areas of Scholarly Writing and awareness on Plagiarism.
