The PG department of Human Resource & Organizational Development in Madras School of Social Work organized their final event of "BHAVISHYA 2017-2018” with great spirits and enthusiasm on 12th March, 2018 at Radha Regent Hotel, Arumbakkam, Chennai.
The session started around 9:45 am with the day’s topic “Bridging the potential gap in the VUCA world”.
VUCA was started in 1990's by the US military. The concept of VUCA is decades old and it abbreviates to Volatile, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity.
There were 5 panellists for the session who spoke in great lengths enlightening all with their years of experience and knowledge. Mr. Suryanarayanan (Head HR, SP Apparels Ltd) stated many instances on the approach of present corporate culture being an impediment for following digital path. Mr. Ganesh Sankaran (HR Manager, SPI Cinemas Pvt Ltd) beautifully spoke about disruption in HR & Business and how self disruption helps in existence and survival of business. Mr. Deepak Gonsalves (HR- L&D & OD, Tafe) spoke about cognitive technology and new smart ways to survive in VUCA World. Mr. Dasarathy Bakthavatchalam (Sr. Exec- Master Data Management, Pfizer India) explained how to play with data to survive in the era of information age where data drives everything and helps in reducing VUCA.
Mr. Ragland Thomas G (Vice President – Global Organisation Development and strategy Institute of Organisational Development), acted as a moderator and summarised the whole discussion.
The session was followed by various Events in which students from different colleges vibrantly participated.
The Best Manager event was conducted by Mr. Ratheesh, HR- Culture, Innovation & New Ventures at SPI cinemas. The activities were planned in such a way that it brings out their potential skills of Leadership, Presence of Mind, Effective Communication, Logical Reasoning, Memory Power and Capacity to recollect.
The Best Management team was the first interactive group event for the day, hosted by Mr. Craig Gonsalvez, Signature Facilitator & Relationship Manager at TCS and Mr. Sabarish Babu, Associate Consultant at SmartMegh Solutions Pvt Ltd. They carried out the activities with the focus on Effective Communication, Team Building, Branding their product and Team collaboration. The take away from the event was about a Healthy Competition and Strategic Planning to achieve success. It had various rounds that compelled the participants to exceed their parameter of capabilities. Though it was a competition it was basically a Knowledge sharing session. Intricacies of handling a stressful situation was a major take away.
IPL Bidding had the most number of participants. The event was hosted by the expert Mr. Isaac K, Manager and Head of Recruitment at DataTracks. The ground rules were established clearly and the focus area was how the different teams planned their amounts to invest on the players that they wanted for their teams. The team names were retained to the original names which made it even more exciting.
The last event for the day was the much awaited 'Corporate walk' which again had a good number of participation from other colleges and the event ended with the host performance by HR&OD students.
The limelight of this show was the Pondicherry university students whose team had a differently- abled person owning the floor. Inclusive corporate culture couldn’t have been depicted any better.
The valedictory at 6pm included prize distribution followed by group rituals of photo sessions. All faculty, students and participants were overwhelmed by the success of the event- BHAVISHYA’18.
