MSSW Library organizes the Library Week Celebrations every year with an aim to induce the prized habit of reading among our students. The details of the events for this year are given below. It was a week-long celebration with various events that ended with a motivating lecture by an eminent speaker/ writer Mr.Ayisha Era.Natarasan. After the lecture, prize winners of all the events (18) were given away the prizes and certificates. Library committee members were given the book ‘Ayisha’ by the speaker and author of the book.  Faculty members who served as judges for various events were also recognized with small books as mementoes. A Book Exhibition was organized for 2 days where faculty members and students were encouraged to see the books and recommend if found useful.

About the speaker

Mr. Era. Natarasan is a teacher, writer, educationalist, novelist, translator, science critic, journalist and children literature contributor. He is known as ‘Ayisha’ Era. Natarasan after his novella ‘Ayisha’. His novella ‘Ayisha is running into a print over a lakh copies in Tamil alone and it has been translated into 12 languages, the latest being French and Spanish. He has authored more than 70 books in Tamil and 12 books in English. He has translated number of books and received number of awards including Dr.Radhakrishnan State Award 2008. And Bala Sahitya Akademi Award for Best Children’s Literature (2014),

 

He is a strong supporter of alternative education. He has done his post-graduation in Physics, Education, Psychology and English Literature. He served as a master resource Person on Right to Education Act for series of UNICEF Sponsored workshops in Tamil Nadu. He played a major role as the member secretary in the Vasanthi Devi Committee on Alternate Education Policy. Ayesha Era. Natarasan was in the Text Book committee formed by the Govt of Tamil Nadu on the eve of the common syllabus formation.

Mr.Natarasan has periodically participated in many education debates on television as a key speaker and his articles and interviews on education have appeared in many leading magazines/Dailies.
