Department of Counselling Psychology, Madras School of Social Work Organized a 5 day Workshop on Basic Counselling Skills For Barefoot Counselors in collaboration with The International Association of Lions Clubs (District – 324-A1) from 13th to 17th November 2017 at The Conference Hall of MSSW. Dr. K. S. Babai, Governor, the International Association of Lions Clubs (District – 324-A1) inaugurated the workshop. Dr. A.M. Swaminathan, President of MSSW and Dr. S. Raja Samuel, Principal were also present.
The 5 days workshop provided hands-on training on barefoot counseling to the participants. Some of the topics covered are Need for Counselling, Core Conditions of Counselling, Ethics in Counselling, Stages of Counselling and Common psychological issues faced by adolescents. The faculty of the Department were the resource person. Dr. Subashini, Dean – Self Finance also facilitated some sessions.
Two batches took place. 43 people participated totally. The participants gained deeper understanding on the concepts such as empathy, unconditional positive regard and rapport building. They also practiced the skills by having mock sessions.
The valedictory address was given by Dr. A. M. Swaminathan, President, MSSW. Participants’ feedback was good.
