The Social Incubation Centre of the Department of Social Entrepreneurship from Madras School of Social Work conducted its very first event on Sustainable Development Through Social Enterprise on the 12th of October 2017. Mr. S. Rajha Gopalan was the key speaker for the event that was held from 3 PM to 5 PM in the Conference Hall inside the college premises. There were around 30 students who took part in this event. Mr. S. Rajha Gopalan is a graduate in civil engineering and a postgraduate in management studies, he has successfully driven RENCO Technologies product and services among corporates and communities. He is also the author of Development Mantra for Sustainability. Mr. Rajha Gopalan spoke about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) officially known as Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which is a set of 17 "Global Goals" with 169 targets among them, which is spearheaded by the United Nations. He spoke about the 17 goals in detail which includes No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy and 10 other goals. He also spoke about his life experience and how he became the author of his book with reference to his life and the importance of the younger generation working towards a greener future with sustainable business methods and how sustainable development is the future. He extended his support to the institution and the students of the institution. He also stressed on the fact that there’s a lot of help available as long as the model is sustainable. Overall, it was very informative. The students learnt about the SDGs and the business opportunities available.
