Dr. Abdul Kalam said that, “Ignited minds of the youth are the most powerful resource on the earth, above the earth and under the earth.” When we want to reach out to these ignited minds and make them to read, what more can be an appropriate title than „Igniting Minds‟? ‘Igniting Minds’ is an initiative of MSSW Library, to reach out to the students of the Mary
Clubwala Jadhav (MCJ) Girls Higher Secondary School, to induce them to read, to help them explore worlds and thinking beyond their own boundaries.
Around 35 volunteers from MSSW will engage around 400 students of 6th to 9th standard of MCJ school (during the school library hours) on rotation by telling them stories, talking about various leaders / personalities, reading out to them biographies / autobiographies, and introducing them to the pleasures of reading throughout the year. This initiative offers the following benefits to the students of both MSSW and MCJ School.
To MSSW Volunteers
Will develop volunteerism
Will experience the „Joy of Reading and Sharing‟
Will learn the „art of teaching‟ and develop the public speaking skill
Will contribute to the intellectual growth of young students
To MCJ students
Will get intellectual inputs in the form of stories, lectures, etc. from young adult students
Will get the inspiration to read
Will develop listening skills
Will be able to relate to „outsiders‟, paving way for coaching/ mentoring
Story Telling Training as Training the Trainers
All the budding volunteers of MSSW who are to train the young students of MCJ are provided training on „Story Telling‟ by Ms. Srividya Veeraraghavan, trainer, story-teller and alumnus of MSSW. This three-hour training on 05th September, 2017 helped the volunteers learn how to narrate life stories of personalities too.
Inauguration of ‘Igniting Minds’
