NSS Volunteers of Madras School of Social Work (MSSW) participated in the SEED BALL WORKSHOP CUM PRODUCTION EVENT as part of SWACHHTA PAKHWARA 2017, organized by Indian Oil Corporation. The event was held on 23rdJuly, 2017 at the Indian Oil Bhavan, Nungambakkam, and Chennai from 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Gopalakrishnan, the Chief General Manager of IOCL, Nungambakkam. The NSS Volunteers of Madras School of Social Work sang the Tamizh Thai Vazhthu. Immediately after, a Swachata Pledge was taken by all the participants present for the event. Other dignitaries present were Mr. Chandrashekar, the General Manager, and Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Human Resource Person, IOCL. The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Kailashnath, Chief Manager ( HR ), IOCL.
A total of 38 NSS volunteers from Madras School of Social Work participated in the event. The volunteers gained knowledge about making seed balls. A seed ball consists of a variety of different seeds rolled within a ball of wet mud. The ball also includes humus or compost. It should be moulded in the right proportion to the size of the seed. The following tree seeds were placed in the seed balls:
Veppam 8. Guava
Vilvam 9. Aanaikundumani
Poovarasu 10. Thoongumoonchi
Nelli 11. Sarakonnai
Iyalvaagai 12. Karungkonnai
Manjakonnai 13. Agathi
A total of 5000 seed balls were made and will be dropped in barren lands. Breakfast was provided for all the volunteers. Certificates and refreshments were also distributed in recognition for the work of all the volunteers.
