The inauguration of the student forums of PG Department of Social Work (Aided), Human Relations Study Circle (HRSC) and Astra (A Forum for Social Change) was held on 25th July, 2017 at the MSSW Conference hall between 10 A.M. and 12 P.M. The chief guests’ for the forum inauguration were Mrs.Vasumathi Benny, Executive Director- Projects, Tamil Nadu Foundation and Mr.Tibine Mathew Varghese, Manager HR-TCS BPS. The welcome address was given by Mr.K.Hementh Praanav, President -HRSC. The program began with the dignitaries lighting up the lamp. Dr. S. Raja Samuel, our beloved Principal gave the presidential address highlighting the fact that forums as best platforms available for students
to enhance their knowledge and skills and become industry ready. Prof. Shakeela Basheer, Head of the Department and the forum coordinator of Astra introduced the forum to the gathering, highlighted its objectives and the importance of the forum. Mrs. Vasumathi Benny, one of our chief guests, brought forward the concepts of 4 Cs (Collaboration, Cross learning, Co-ordination and Capacity) for student’s development. She also insisted the importance of documentation for career development and success in any field. She concluded her speech with the statement, “BE THERE FOR PEOPLE.” Mr. Tibine Mathew Varghese, Manager HR- TCS BPS, motivated the students to take active participation in all forum activities and shared the importance of staying connected through the professional forums. He brought out the concept of “DESIGN THINKING”, which would help students understand professional challenges and therefore find plausible solutions and move up in the career ladder. Following the chief guests address, the investiture ceremony took place. The forum leaders were first bestowed with the badges for their respective posts, after which the oath taking ceremony took place. This was led by Dr. P. Sivapragasam, faculty co-ordinator of the HRSC forum, wherein the forum office bearers took oath to take up their responsibilities in an effective way. The event concluded with the Vote of Thanks given by Ms. T. Premalatha, President – Astra, followed by the National Anthem.
